We’re calling it – summer has officially arrived in the UK! Finally! With the sun shining and life returning to normal family days out are at the forefront of everyone’s minds. We can’t wait to see everyone out enjoying themselves once again!
While it is lovely to finally have some warmer weather, it can also be a worry when planning a day out with little ones. The hottest temperature ever recorded in the UK hit a sweltering 38.5°C so it is super important to make sure you’re prepared whatever the weather.
Diggerland’s Summer Essentials for Family Days Out
Whether you’re visiting one of our Diggerland parks or venturing elsewhere, we would recommend checking to make sure you have the following essentials for some fun family days out:
1. Sun cream
Sun cream is arguably the most important item to pack wherever you go during the summer months. Make sure children are covered head to toe to avoid any nasty burns!
It’s also important to top up sun cream throughout the day, especially when visiting outdoor attractions that may have water rides or a pool. Even if your sun cream is waterproof, it is better to reapply it after coming out of the water.
2. Water – and lots of it!
It’s so easy to forget to stay hydrated while having fun out and about, but it is also super important! Whether you chuck a couple of bottles in the car or purchase refreshments from our on-site cafe. Making sure the whole family keeps hydrated is key for a fun day out!
3. Protective hats for children.
Sun hats are one of the easiest ways of keeping kids safe in the sunshine, and our Goodie Store has some great options!
4. Comfy, but suitable, clothing.
Despite the warm weather, children will be happy to run around for hours on end. It is good to stick to dark coloured, cool clothing to ensure children do not get overheated.
It is also best to make sure that clothing is appropriate for the weather as well as the attraction you’re visiting. For example, when planning a family day out to Diggerland UK we would suggest all visitors wear suitable footwear – and not flip flops. Even on hot days, it is important to always put safety first!
5. Face coverings and hand sanitiser!
You would have thought after a year of lockdowns we would remember to pick up our face masks, right? Well it seems not! We are always forgetting to pick up our face coverings.
At the moment, most UK indoor attractions are requiring all adults to wear face coverings while inside, unless they are exempt. Most UK outdoor attractions will not require visitors to wear face coverings while outdoors – but beware this will vary depending on the attraction.
Some of our rides and drives require a face mask to be worn by visitors if they come in close proximity to our marshalls and other guests. More information can be found here.
We feel it is always better to have a face covering packed and not use it than to miss out on the day!
