Diggerland community support: Bringing smiles to children at Medway Maritime Hospital

Diggerland gives back to its local community with a special toy donation to Medway Maritime Hospital’s children’s wards, bringing fun, play and smiles to young patients throughout the year.

At Diggerland, we’re passionate about making people smile! So, we’re delighted to spread a little happiness beyond our parks. We’ve made a special donation to the children’s wards at Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham, Kent.

As a Kent-based theme park, we’re proud to be part of the local community. We recognise the importance of supporting local people, organisations and charities. They make a real difference to those living and working in the area.

We’ve donated a fantastic collection of brand-new toys to the hospital’s Dolphin and Penguin children’s wards. As a result, young patients will have more opportunities for fun and play. The toys will also provide a welcome distraction during their hospital stay.

They will be placed in the outdoor play space between the two children’s wards. What’s more, children can enjoy them throughout the year.

The donation arrives just in time for Christmas. We hope the new toys will bring extra excitement to families spending the festive season in hospital. Most importantly, the fun won’t stop there! Children will be able to enjoy the toys throughout the year.

A donation close to our hearts

The idea for the donation came from our Head of Marketing, Sherene Garvin-Mack, who has a very personal connection with Medway Maritime Hospital.

Sherene’s little boy, Declan, spent a short time in hospital. During his stay, the wonderful teams on both the Dolphin and Penguin wards cared for him. Sherene experienced their kindness first-hand. As a result, she wanted Diggerland to find a way to give something back. She was particularly impressed by the staff’s dedication and compassion.

When our team discovered some surplus Little Tikes stock that was no longer needed, Sherene immediately saw an opportunity to put it to good use. The toys were all brand new, in fantastic condition and still in their original packaging.

Diggerland also purchased additional items to create an even bigger collection. Together, this allowed us to put together a fantastic bundle of toys for the hospital.

The idea was put forward to our Board of Directors, who thought it was a wonderful initiative and wholeheartedly supported the donation.

Lots of new toys to enjoy!

The donation includes a lovely selection of toys. There’s something to encourage imaginative play and keep little ones entertained. The collection includes:

  • The iconic red and yellow Little Tikes Cozy Coupe car.

  • A Little Tikes Cozy Coupe Police Car.

  • Blue and pink Teeter Totter seesaws.

  • Little Tikes Turtle sandboxes, which will be filled with children’s play balls rather than sand.

The sandboxes will offer an alternative play experience. Using play balls instead of sand also takes hygiene and safety into consideration.

There’s plenty to keep little ones entertained, encourage imaginative play and, most importantly, bring a few extra smiles to their hospital stay!

Giving something back to our local community

We’re incredibly pleased that the toys have been so warmly welcomed by the hospital and The Medway Hospital Charity.

For us, this was about more than simply finding a new home for surplus toys. Instead, it was an opportunity to support a fantastic team of people.

As a Kent-based theme park, we’re proud to be part of the local community. We recognise the importance of supporting the people, organisations and charities that make a difference.

We’re delighted that these toys will continue to be enjoyed by young patients long after the Christmas decorations have come down!

A huge thank you to everyone at Medway Maritime Hospital, particularly the teams on Dolphin and Penguin wards, for the wonderful care they provide.

We hope the children have lots of fun with their new toys!
