Halfway Through the Summer Holidays? Here’s Why Diggerland Should Be Your Next Family Day Out

Can you believe we’re already halfway through the summer holidays?

After weeks of keeping the children entertained, finding new things to do and hearing the inevitable “I’m bored!”, you might be looking for a family day out that offers something genuinely different.

That’s where Diggerland comes in.

With four UK locations in Kent, Devon, Durham and Yorkshire, Diggerland is the UK’s construction-themed adventure park where children and adults can ride, drive and operate real construction machinery in a safe and family-friendly environment. With 20 different rides and drives included in standard admission, it’s an action-packed day out with plenty to keep the whole family entertained.

So, if you’re still wondering what to do for the rest of the summer holidays, here’s why Diggerland deserves a place on your list.

The Summer Holidays Aren’t Over Yet!

The summer holidays can sometimes feel like a marathon. You’ve already visited the local park, been to the cinema, spent a fortune on ice creams and perhaps exhausted your usual list of family activities. But there are still weeks of summer left, and there’s plenty of time to make some more unforgettable memories.

A visit to Diggerland offers something that you won’t find at your typical theme park.

Instead of simply watching rides go around, children have the opportunity to get behind the controls and experience what it’s like to operate real construction machinery.

That’s right, real diggers, dumpers and other full-size construction equipment form part of the Diggerland experience. It’s an experience that’s fun, hands-on and unlike anything most children would normally have access to.

Get Behind the Controls of Real Construction Machinery

One of the biggest reasons to visit Diggerland is simple: where else can children ride and operate real construction machinery as part of a family day out?

Diggerland gives children the chance to get hands-on with machinery including real diggers, dumpers, backhoe loaders and mini tractors, all within a dedicated theme park environment.

For many children, construction machinery is fascinating. They might spot diggers working on roads or building sites and wonder what it would be like to actually drive one.

At Diggerland, they can find out. Under the appropriate supervision and subject to height restrictions, children can take part in experiences that bring construction to life.

It’s not just about sitting in a cab, either. The hands-on nature of many of the attractions gives children a chance to develop confidence, coordination and problem-solving skills while having fun. And, of course, parents can join in too!

20 Rides and Drives Included in Your Admission

If you’re worried that the children will run out of things to do, there’s no need. Diggerland has 20 main rides and drives, which are included within standard admission.

From machinery-based attractions to family favourites, there’s plenty to explore throughout the day.

Depending on height and safety restrictions, visitors can experience attractions including:

  • Spindizzy
  • Skyshuttle
  • Groundshuttle
  • Dig-a-Round
  • Mini Tractors
  • Go-Karts
  • Dodgems
  • Real digger and dumper experiences

There are also optional attractions available for an additional charge, including Quad-Bikes, Super Digs and Dodgems at applicable locations. Don’t forget to check out the full list of Diggerland Ride and Drives available before visiting.

With so much to experience, you can easily spend a full day exploring the park rather than worrying about what to do next. Just remember to check the ride height chart before your visit, as height restrictions apply to the various rides and drives.

Under 90cm? They Enter Free!

Planning a family day out can become expensive, particularly when you have several children to pay for. One of the benefits of visiting Diggerland is that children under 90cm enter free of charge.

This can be particularly useful for families with younger children who may still be below the 90cm height threshold.

If your child is close to 90cm, don’t worry. We recommend booking an under 90cm ticket in advance if you’re unsure of their height. Children are measured with their shoes on at the admissions desk, and if they measure 90cm or above on arrival, the appropriate admission fee will apply.

Free EV Charging for Visitors

Travelling to Diggerland in an electric vehicle? We’ve got you covered.

All four Diggerland UK parks in Kent, Devon, Durham and Yorkshire have EV charging facilities, and charging is free for paying Diggerland visitors and customers of EVision Electric Vehicles.

That means you can plug in your electric vehicle while the family gets stuck into a day of digger-themed adventure. We would recommend using Zapmap to check availability and plan your journey.

It’s a small extra convenience that can make travelling to the park in an EV even easier.

Top Tips for Visiting Diggerland During the Summer Holidays

Want to make the most of your visit? Here are a few simple tips.

Pre-Book Your Tickets

Our number one tip is to pre-book your tickets before you visit.

If you pre-book your admission tickets before the day of your planned visit, you’ll be saving money off your family day out! Pre-booking also gives you the best chance of securing entry, as pay-on-the-day admission is subject to availability.

Don’t leave it until the morning of your visit if you know which day you’d like to come.

Check the Ride Height Requirements

Not every ride is suitable for every child, so check the ride height chart before you arrive. This will help you manage expectations and plan which attractions your children can enjoy. It can also save you from hearing “Why can’t I go on that one?” once you’re already inside!

Arrive Prepared for the Weather

British summer weather can be unpredictable.

Bring sun cream, hats and plenty of water if it’s going to be warm, but it’s also worth packing a light waterproof just in case the weather changes.

Comfortable closed toe footwear is a must too, you’ll want to be ready for plenty of walking and exploring.

Plan Your Journey

If you’re travelling a long distance, check your route before setting off and allow extra time for summer traffic.

If you’re driving an EV, check your vehicle’s range and plan any charging stops before you leave. Diggerland’s EV charging facilities are available during opening hours but cannot be reserved, so it’s worth having a backup plan if you need to charge.

Take a Break

With so much to see and do, it’s easy to get carried away. Make use of the park’s eating facilities and outdoor picnic areas, take regular breaks and keep everyone hydrated.

A little rest can make all the difference when you’re trying to keep the energy levels going until the end of the day!

A Day Out They’ll Actually Remember

Let’s face it: children can quickly forget another trip to the shops, another playground visit or another afternoon watching television. Diggerland is different.

Imagine your child telling their friends that they drove a real digger during the summer holidays. That’s the kind of experience that sticks.

Diggerland is designed around construction machinery, meaning the theme continues throughout the park. It gives children the opportunity to try something they wouldn’t normally be able to experience in everyday life.

For budding builders, future engineers or simply children who love anything big, noisy and mechanical, it’s a brilliant opportunity to let their imagination take over.

And you never know, today’s digger driver could be tomorrow’s construction professional!
