Family Days Out – Will a day trip be on the cards for 2021?

We all thought 2021 would be the best year ever. Well it couldn’t get any worse than 2020 right? After the latest government announcement, we have been given that glimmer of hope for a better year ahead! What else does that mean… Family days out!

We have been eagerly waiting to reopen, and we are so happy to have finally got a rough date from the government. Outdoor attractions including theme parks will be allowed to reopen again from 12th April. However this will depend on the previous stages of easing restrictions. It’s a start though!

As most of the UK prepare to return to some sort of normality in the next coming months, we are putting together a handy guide for family days out in the UK.

WHERE WILL YOU PLAN TO GO FOR FAMILY DAYS OUT?

As the lockdown restrictions gradually ease, families will be able to get out of the confinement of their home, and enjoy indoor and outdoor family days out. However for now, we’ve highlighted the best outdoor activities close to us.

DIGGERLAND

Top of the list of course, it has to be a trip to one of our three Diggerland parks in Kent, Durham or Yorkshire. We haven’t currently got a date confirmed yet for reopening, but rest assured as soon as we do, all of our lovely visitors will know about it as we shout it from the rooftops. Or from the top of Spindizzy in our case!

So, why choose Diggerland to start off your ultimate list of family days out?

Diggerland is a construction themed UK attraction that is home to 20 different rides and drives. All of our attractions are inspired by existing construction machinery. Children and adults alike can operate and drive real life machines including mini diggers, and dumper trucks.

Alongside the machinery, visitors can also enjoy a ride on the Dig-a-Round carousel, get competitive on the go-karts, enjoy the view from the Skyshuttle and even take a spin on Spindizzy.

Enjoy a unique day out to one of our Diggerland parks!

DIGGERLAND RIDE HEIGHT CHART

All of our attractions have height restrictions, and anyone who is over 90cm can get on the majority of our rides & drives. If you are travelling with younger children we always advise our guests to check against our ride height chart and measure their children before they arrive. We wouldn’t want to disappoint anyone!

NOSTELL PRIORY

Nostell Priory is located just outside of Wakefield, round the corner from Diggerland Yorkshire. It is looked after by the National Trust organisation.

What is there to do, we hear you ask?

Visitors can expect breathtaking views, and walk around the well-kept grounds. All well-behaved dogs are welcome to walk around too, so there’s no need to leave your furry little friends at home.

Keen nature spotters will also be able to enjoy the woodland, lakes and surrounding areas which are home to many species of wildlife.

They are advising visitors to pre-book a car parking space if you would like to visit. National trust members will park for free, and non-members will need to pre-pay a small fee before they arrive.

THE BEAR TRAIL

Cullompton, Devon is not only the home of our Diggerland Devon park, but also The Bear Trail

Kids from 2 years old up and adults can enjoy this family assault course. Visitors will find themselves scrambling over the bear nets, flying down the zip wire and going through the tunnels. This is definitely an outdoor attraction that is not to be missed.

Visitors can book onto two time slots from 10am – 1pm and 2pm – 5pm. Once visitors have completed the assault course, there are plenty of onsite facilities and places to sit to enjoy a spot of lunch.

Currently, the Bear Trail is set to reopen again on 2nd April, subject to government guidelines.
