When you’re thinking of things to do outdoors, what do you think of? We would hope you think of Diggerland! Of course however, Diggerland is now closed for the winter season, so what’s the next best thing?
As we go into the next national lockdown, we are varied as to what activities we can enjoy together as a family. But fear not, we’ve compiled a list of things to do outdoors whilst being as safe as possible!
Although you’re only located in your garden, camping outside provides a feeling like no other and is a great activity for the family to enjoy together.
You can drink endless amounts of hot chocolate, whilst cuddled up together in a bundle of blankets. How exciting does that sound?
To bring some entertainment to the evening, there’s nothing better than bringing the board games out! After all, everyone loves a board game!
If you’re the musical type of family, perhaps you can all enjoy a singsong together, or simply kick back and relax with some relaxing tunes.
Nature Scavenger Hunt
As you know, we have been put under guidelines that allow us to go outside for one hour a day for exercise.
So, why not turn your daily exercise regime into something a little more exciting?
Arranging a scavenger hunt in your garden or your local park/woods is a great way for the children to stay entertained whilst also learning at the same time.
Create a list of bugs / objects to find on your walk and the children will have a blast as they start to tick them off! Whoever finds the most on the list, can win a little treat for their victory.
When thinking of things to do outdoors, a lot of the activities can be done within the comfort of your own home, but just brought outside.
Painting for example. During the first lockdown, we saw a craze that waved the nation which was rock painting. It spread pure happiness and a real sense of community spirit.
In Cambridgeshire, a community in St Neots created a ‘rock snake’ that compiled around 300 decorated rocks to see how long it could grow. What a brilliant idea!
Alternatively, painting outside on a canvas can be just as fun and a great way to get the whole family involved.
Cold nights and a fire, that’s right…it’s Guy Fawkes night tomorrow!
What an excellent opportunity to spend this time outside with your loved ones.
To celebrate the festivities, you can purchase some fireworks from most local supermarkets and enjoy the beautiful night sky.
Setting up a bonfire in your garden is a family favourite that everyone will love too!
What’s more, you have the excuse to cuddle up in your blankets and toast some marshmallows. What can be better than that?
We hope that these little ideas have sparked your imagination to keep safe this lockdown. But don’t forget to also have as much fun as possible with your loved ones!
