As we edge just that little bit closer to the most festive month of the year, we take a look at some of the fantastic festive activities that the whole family can get involved in. Although Diggerland would definitely be up there on the list of things to do during the holiday season, we are unfortunately closed over the winter period. Take a look at the next best things to do as a family in December.
FESTIVE ACTIVITIES FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
With only a few more weeks until the schools break up for the Christmas holidays, there’s still plenty of time to plan some festive days inside and even out. How many of these ideas will you be doing with your family?
Get in the kitchen and bake!
Can you go wrong with food, of course you can’t! Plus, festive food is even better. The question is what will you be making with the children this year?
Maybe your children would love to make some Christmas tree shaped biscuits or even some mince pies for the adults. The children will love dusting off their cooking aprons and getting their hands dirty. Then they can decorate their own bakes, ready to enjoy later on. Perhaps they could take it one step further and decorate a gift basket, and wrap up their home baked goods. If you need some inspiration then we would highly recommend checking out BBC Good Food for the latest Christmas recipes.
Is it too early to put up the Christmas tree?
Is it tradition in your household to wait until at least 1st December to put up the Christmas decorations, or are you an eager beaver? If you’ve got young children then you’ll either be delaying as long as possible, or giving it to keep them happy!
Once you’ve dug out all of the decorations from the loft, then it’s time to get decorating. Make the most of the precious family time, and make it an activity that is done together. Get even more into the festive spirit and put on some Christmas songs to sing and dance to!
Cosy up and watch a Christmas film!
After a fun-filled afternoon of putting up the Christmas tree, is there anything more relaxing than cosying up on the sofa and watching a classic Christmas film?
When it comes to festive films, we definitely have our top 5 choices:
- The Grinch
- Elf
- Home Alone
- The Night Before Christmas
- Love Actually
How many of these have you seen?
Wreath making
Wreath making is one of many festive activities that have become popular in the UK. Originally, the first wreaths were made in Ancient Greece and Rome, which were then hung on doors as a symbol of victory. In the 19th century, it also became common for handmade wreaths to be laid to honour the dead. The tradition has changed dramatically to now incorporate Christmas!
Commonly, wreaths are decorated with red berries, pine cones, holly, and even cinnamon sticks for the ultimate festive feel. What will you choose?
