Looking for a family day out this May half term that’s packed with fun, fresh air, and a touch of muddy madness? Diggerland has got you covered. Whether you’ve got little ones who love to explore or teenagers looking for thrills, a day at Diggerland is unlike anything else you’ll find in the UK.
From driving real diggers to taking on construction-themed rides, there’s something for everyone – and yes, adults are very much encouraged to get stuck in too!
Here are 7 brilliant reasons to visit Diggerland this May half term with the whole family.
1. Get Behind the Controls of Real Diggers (Yes, really!)
Where else can children – and grown-ups – hop into the cab of a real digger and take control? At Diggerland, you’ll find a huge range of hands-on experiences where you can operate genuine construction machinery in a safe, supervised environment. Try your skills at precision digging, scoop up mud and gravel, or even play a game of Skittles, where the challenge is to knock down pins using a ball attached to the end of the digger arm! It’s not only heaps of fun, but surprisingly addictive.
2. Thrill Rides With a Twist
Diggerland isn’t your average theme park. Here, many of the rides have been cleverly adapted from actual machinery – turning the world of construction into a full-on adventure playground. Whether you’re brave enough to take on Spindizzy (not for the faint-hearted!), want to glide high above the park on the Skyshuttle, or fancy bouncing around on the Groundshuttle, there are plenty of rides that offer thrills for all ages. Even the youngest visitors can enjoy gentler attractions like the Dig-A-Round and ride-on Mini Tractors. (Check Ride Height Chart here)
3. All-Weather Fun, Outdoors and In
May weather can be unpredictable – but that doesn’t mean your plans need to be. Diggerland is primarily an outdoor attraction, giving kids the chance to run around in the fresh air and burn off energy. But there are indoor options too, including soft play zones and covered eating areas. Pack a waterproof just in case, but rest assured, a little drizzle never spoils the fun here.
4. Fun for the Whole Family – Not Just the Kids
What makes Diggerland truly special is that it’s not just a day out for the kids – it’s an experience the whole family can enjoy together. Adults can join in on nearly every ride and attraction, making it the perfect place for some good old-fashioned family bonding. Whether you’re racing your kids on the Go-Karts, helping them steer a JCB, or simply laughing together on the rides, it’s a rare day out that really does have something for everyone.
5. Fuel Up with Food and Treats
All that digging, driving and adventuring is hungry work! Fortunately, each of our parks features a Dig Inn café, serving up hot meals, sandwiches, snacks, drinks and ice creams. There are also plenty of picnic spots if you’d prefer to bring your own lunch and enjoy it outside.
6. Pick Up a Diggerland Souvenir
Before you head home, don’t forget to visit the Diggerland Gift Shop. From construction-themed toys and clothing to fun mementos of your day, there’s something for everyone to take home – whether it’s a souvenir digger for the kids or a new set of digger pjs.
7. Create Lasting Memories This Half Term
Most importantly, a day out at Diggerland is about making memories. From the moment the kids climb into their first machine to the final ride of the day, you’ll have countless moments worth capturing – and stories to tell for weeks afterwards. It’s a proper, good-value, joy-filled family day out that stands out from the crowd.
