There’s a new face at the helm of Diggerland Devon, and he’s ready to roll up his sleeves, fire up the diggers, and take the park to new heights (or depths, depending on the machine!). We’re thrilled to introduce Gavin Shuman, the brand-new General Manager of our Devon theme park.
With years of experience in leisure, operations, and leadership, Gavin is already digging deep (pun absolutely intended) to make your next visit to Diggerland even more exciting. But who is the man behind the hi-vis vest? We caught up with Gavin for a quick Q&A to get to know him better.
Q&A With Gavin Shuman
Q: Welcome to the Diggerland family, Gavin! What drew you to Diggerland Devon?
Gavin: What attracted me to Diggerland Devon is the unique and exciting experience it offers. I love the idea of being in a fun, family-friendly environment where people can get hands-on with real diggers and machinery. The combination of adventure, learning, and the opportunity to work outdoors with a fantastic team really drew me to Diggerland Devon.
Q: What were you doing before joining Diggerland?
Gavin: Before joining Diggerland, I served as a Venue Director for a theatre company, overseeing operations in several large-scale venues for the past 15 years. Prior to that, I was involved with events and premieres at Vue Cinema in Leicester Square. My passion for attractions and theme parks began during my time with the Tussauds Group at Chessington World of Adventures and Thorpe Park.
Q: What’s your vision for Diggerland Devon?
Gavin: Diggerland Devon is a unique adventure park that allows visitors to experience the excitement of operating real construction machinery in a safe and controlled environment. My vision for Diggerland Devon is to continue its evolution into the premier family-friendly destination in the South West of England, which combines fun, education, and hands-on experiences with construction equipment.
Q: Be honest – have you had a go on the diggers yet?
Gavin: I feel really lucky to have had the chance to experience each ride! I especially love driving the bigger diggers – they’re so much fun!
Q: What do you enjoy doing when you’re not running a theme park?
Gavin: When I’m not at the park, I spend time with my family. I have two small children, so I don’t get much downtime. However, I still love theatre and try to go as often as possible to see a musical or a comedy.
