This month, Diggerland UK is marking an exciting milestone, its 25th anniversary! For a quarter of a century, Diggerland has been delivering unforgettable, adrenaline-pumping experiences to families. A Vision Turned Reality
The story of Diggerland begins in 1996, when Hugh Edeleanu, Chairman of H. E. Services (Plant Hire) Ltd, noticed something remarkable during a family open day: children were completely captivated by construction machinery. They couldn’t get enough of sitting in the cabs of the diggers. This sparked an idea in Hugh’s mind. A theme park where families could not only see construction equipment but actually operate it! This vision became a reality in April 2000 when Hugh opened the first-ever Diggerland park in Kent, England. The response was immediate, and over 20,000 visitors flocked to the park in its first year, setting the stage for a thrilling journey.
Expanding Across the UK
What started in Kent quickly expanded across the country. In 2001, Diggerland launched its second park in Durham, followed by another in Devon later that same year. In 2007, Diggerland Yorkshire opened its doors in Castleford, on a sprawling 70-acre site. Today, each park features over 20 unique attractions with more than 100 machines, with new rides and drives introduced annually to keep the excitement fresh.

Diggerland has always focused on creating thrilling experiences for all ages. From the thrill of driving a dumper or digger to enjoying the family-friendly Dig-a-Round carousel. Plus the panoramic Skyshuttle, or the adrenaline-pumping Spindizzy, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Even the littlest visitors can join the fun. With machinery designed for safe operation from a parent’s lap, ensuring that every family member can take part in the excitement.
