We are thrilled to announce that Diggerland Kent has been awarded a Bronze Award at the 2025-2026 Wilder Kent Awards, recognising our dedication to protecting, restoring, and celebrating nature in our local community. This award highlights our ongoing efforts to combine fun, adventure, and environmental responsibility, reinforcing our commitment to being an eco-friendly theme park that values wildlife and sustainability at every level.
About the Wilder Kent Awards
The Wilder Kent Awards, organised by Kent Wildlife Trust, celebrate the positive actions of schools, businesses, community groups, and organisations across Kent that are helping to create a #WilderKent. This year, over 90 groups were shortlisted, with more than 25,000 people taking direct action for nature. Collectively, these initiatives benefited over 400,000 people and helped restore nearly 70 hectares of land, equivalent to around 98 football pitches. These figures show the scale of the collective impact that small, local actions can have on the environment and the community.
Our Wildlife and Conservation Initiatives
At Diggerland Kent, we are proud to be recognised for the work we have been doing to support wildlife, create natural habitats, and encourage visitors to enjoy the outdoors responsibly. Across the park, we have created multiple nature patches where we intentionally allow wildflowers, native plants, and even some “weeds” to flourish. These areas are not only visually beautiful but also provide vital food sources for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. We also have bug hotels and insect-friendly spaces that provide safe homes for a variety of insects, supporting biodiversity and maintaining healthy ecosystems throughout the park.
Our Sustainability Efforts
Being an eco-friendly theme park goes beyond our wildlife areas. Any of our staff members who use company vehicles now drive electric cars, and we offer free electric vehicle charging for all Diggerland visitors, encouraging sustainable travel options for families enjoying a day out. The park also benefits from solar panels that generate renewable electricity, which powers our fleet of electric vehicles including the Mini Tractors, Go-Karts, and Mini Land Rovers. Wherever possible, we are introducing more electric vehicles and reducing reliance on fossil fuels, making every ride and attraction as sustainable as it can be.
Combining Fun with Education
Our commitment to sustainability also extends to education and visitor engagement. Children and adults alike are encouraged to explore our nature areas, spot insects in bug hotels, and learn about pollinators and other wildlife. The experience of seeing how ecosystems work in practice is complemented by the knowledge that the park itself is taking positive action to protect the environment. By blending entertainment, adventure, and education, Diggerland Kent demonstrates that eco-friendly theme parks can be both fun and environmentally responsible.
Innovations and Ongoing Projects
Over the past year, our team has worked hard to maintain these projects and find new ways to make the park greener. From planting wildflower borders to creating additional bug-friendly habitats, every step is part of our broader commitment to wildlife conservation. These efforts help safeguard nature for future generations while enhancing the visitor experience. Families can enjoy thrilling rides and attractions, safe in the knowledge that their visit also supports sustainable practices and wildlife protection.
Recognition from Kent Wildlife Trust
Kent Wildlife Trust’s Education Manager, Tom White, said:
“Every year we are blown away by the entries we receive. These projects create habitats for wildlife, restore natural spaces, and tackle the climate and biodiversity crisis. The awards ceremony was the perfect celebration of the people making this happen.”
At Diggerland Kent, we are incredibly proud to have our work recognised in this way. Our team is dedicated to providing fun, exciting, and sustainable experiences for all visitors. From our electric safari ride vehicles to our bug-friendly nature patches and solar-powered attractions, we are constantly seeking innovative ways to minimise environmental impact while maximising enjoyment.
Working Together for a Wilder Kent
The Bronze Award is also a reflection of the commitment of our visitors, who support our eco-friendly initiatives and enjoy learning about wildlife and sustainability during their time at the park. By combining adventure with environmental responsibility, we are helping to show that theme parks can be both entertaining and sustainable.
We would like to thank Kent Wildlife Trust for this recognition and celebrate all the other groups awarded Gold, Silver, Bronze, or Commendation this year. Together, we are contributing to a wilder, greener, and more sustainable Kent.
Looking Ahead
Being an eco-friendly theme park is a long-term commitment. We continue to explore ways to improve sustainability across all areas of the park, from renewable energy and electric vehicles to biodiversity projects and environmental education. Every plant we grow, every solar panel installed, and every bug hotel built contributes to the health of local wildlife and creates a more sustainable future.
Stay tuned for more updates on our environmental initiatives, wildlife projects, and sustainability efforts. At Diggerland Kent, we are proud to combine adventure, education, and conservation, helping to create a #WilderKent one digger at a time.
