Best of 2013: Another Muddy Good Year

2013 has had a bit of everything – snow, rain, sun, and celebrities! Since opening our doors again in February we have smashed cars, dressed up, hit the road, and had a heap of muddy good fun! Thanks to all of you this has been the best year yet, and below are just some of the many highlights. Send your photos and stories to and we will add our favorites!

We were all blighted with a bad Winter, the snow seemed never ending, and when it did stop we were drowned in downpours! Things looked damp and dreary in January, but the fab Diggerland Marshals were up and ready for another year, whatever the weather!

Our season began on February 16th. Families put their woollies on and came in their droves to celebrate half term. Our diggers were revved up and people of all ages got behind the wheel to dig, dig, and dig some more! Up in Yorkshire was cold, but it didn’t stop this young driver from having buckets of fun in a giant JCB!

Before we could look forward to Summer, March and April had a surprise snow storm in store. Despite having to make the decision to close some of our attractions, the calls flooded in from all you concerned Diggerland fans and we were back up and running in no time! The snow cleared (we have access to a few diggers) and the clouds passed, giving way to the first glimpse of sunshine.

In June we had our first Dress Up Day of the season, giving budding builders the chance to enjoy a free day at Diggerland! But we had some very thorough criteria – hats, belts and tools were all a must! Only the most convincing builders were granted free entry! But even for the regularly dressed adults there was plenty to do, including our new and improved Go-Karts!

Introduced early in the season, the brand new Go-Karts are funkier and faster than ever, so you can race friends and family around our specially designed track in style! And in Yorkshire only is the exciting new Kart World – an indoor Go-Karting track bigger, better, and faster than our standard Karts. Perfect for that extra thrill! All four parks have also introduced the Train Barrels – an addition to the popular Diggerland Train that lets you ride in a pull along barrel at the back.

2013 has also hosted some incredible special events, including a few returning favorites. The Big Diggerland Car Smash Challenge was a resounding success – laughter was had, smiles were made, and cars were emphatically smashed into an unrecognizable clump of metallic glee. Once a year our Marshals get to put the rules aside and take out any pent up frustration on the poor cars awaiting their wrath, much to the delight of Diggerland visitors.

After a long hiatus, 2013 also saw the return of Digger Wars! Visitors watched on as two expert digger drivers battled it out in a series of grueling challenges! It was a blast, and keep an eye out on our website for news of any special events in 2014! And you always need to come to our parks to find us – we have been out and about at shows and events all year round from Brands Hatch to Crystal Palace, Devon to Durham and the Yorkshire Show in between, but the most fun all year had to be the JCB Mud Run! A group of brave Marshals from Yorkshire, led by Manager Chris, made the journey to Staffordshire and took part in the dirtiest annual obstacle challenge there is! JCB purpose build the course and money raised from the event goes to charity. Everyone from Diggerland had muddy good fun, but they never did tell us where they finished!

Our parks were open every day throughout the Summer holidays, and as you are all trying to fill those days with exciting things to do, Diggerland hits its busiest. Vikki Cross took this picture with her family driving the tractors. With over 18 attractions at each park, it’s not all about the diggers! As well as the Tractors and Go-Karts, children can drive mini Land Rovers or get behind the wheel of a real 4×4! But if it was diggers you wanted we have plenty of those too!

Finally, we have had more than our fair share of glitz and glamour with a couple of celebrity appearances, including a very special treat for staff and visitors at Yorkshire! Back in July, ITV series Star Treatment came to Diggerland to reward a few of our most deserving Marshals. Manager Mick’s hand-picked batch were greeted by Loose Women star Jane McDonald and whisked off to the Glam Van where they were given a full makeover and brand new wardrobe. Meanwhile Mick prepared a gourmet meal with a top chef, and at the end of the day the catwalk was assembled for friends and family to see their newly revamped loved ones!

Diggerland Kent then helped to realize someone else’s wish of a day racing diggers with Emmerdale star Roxanne Pallet. They spent a few hours in the park riding Spindizzy and causing some general mischief, but everyone had a great time!

So the Autumn rolled on and as the sun started hiding again the coats came out and Halloween approached. We may have been in the final throes of our season, but that didn’t stop the staff at Devon getting all dressed up and getting into the spooky spirit! Where else can you spend the day with Iron Man, Superman, a vampire and a dragon, all while driving a range of real construction machinery? Exactly.

Before we knew it the year was over and the diggers were locked away for another Winter. However you can still order gift vouchers ready for next season, so if you need that special Christmas or Birthday present look no further.

Thanks to everyone for visiting us, and continuing to tell your friends about us. We have had a great year, and we look forward to seeing you again in 2014!

Soap Star Has Muddy Good Fun

Last week Diggerland Kent played host to former Emmerdale star Roxanne Pallett, who was launching the new 888casino’s Millionaire Genie game. She was on a date with Troy Stapleton, whose wish was granted by and ourselves to go digger racing with the actress-turned-model.

Andy Ballantyne, Managing Director of Diggerland, called it “the best photo shoot we’ve ever done”, and even managed to get a little signed picture, which is now carefully stored under lock and key!

Miss Pallett shot to fame as Jo Sugden in the ITV soap Emmerdale, but she only clinched the job by lying on her CV about being a whizz on a motorbike. The show’s bosses wrote the bike into her character’s story and only found out on the first day of filming that she barely knew how to sit on one and had fibbed about her licence. So once she got behind the wheel of our Dumper Trucks we were all on high alert!

But despite falling out of a scoop while trying to bat away a wasp, screaming her lungs out as she crashed a JCB up a hill and almost falling out the window of a 9 tonne JCB as it turned on one side, it was a fun-filled day for all!

Diggerland is the UK’s ultimate adventure park where people of all ages and abilities can ride and drive real full-size diggers. With over 18 different attractions including giant diggers, tractors, Go-Karts, Dumper Trucks, the Skyshuttle, and our world famous Spindizzy, Diggerland promises a great day out for the whole family! And wherever you are, it’s never too far away from your nearest park:

Medway Valley Leisure Park, Strood, Kent, ME2 2NU
Langley Park, County Durham, DH7 9TT
Willowbridge Lane, Castleford, West Yorkshire, WF10 5NW
Verbeer Manor, Cullompton, Devon, EX15 2PE

Summer Is Here!

July & August are always our favourite months at Diggerland – the sun is out, school is finished, and we are OPEN EVERY SINGLE DAY! That’s right, we are here 10am – 5pm, 7 days a week right throughout the Summer holidays, and we have a couple of tricks up our sleeve too!

If you stopped by Diggerland Kent back on June 30th you would have seen the amazing Digger Wars! We put expert digger drivers head to head, or should we say wheel to wheel, as they battled it out to hoards of screaming Digger fans. Our marshalls did their best to keep things under control, but once they got the diggers going there was no stopping them!

On Saturday 27th July at every Diggerland park, you can witness the most smashtacular event of the year – it’s The Big Diggerland Car Smash Challenge! Two digger experts go head to head in a series of grueling, car-crunching challenges, and best of all IT’S AT NO EXTRA COST! So if you’re planning a visit to Diggerland make it July 27th and witness this extraordinary event!

Duggy's Mix Tape

This Saturday, millions of people around the country will be rushing back from Diggerland to get ready for another exciting Eurovision Song Contest. To celebrate, we are giving you an exclusive peek at Duggy’s very own mixed tape playlist, filled with all his favourite songs.

So while you’re sitting with the family watching Bonnie Tyler belt out another possible flop for the UK, Duggy will be relaxing in a bubble bath, unwinding from another busy day at Diggerland, and listening to…

The JCB Song – Nizlopi

A classic for any builders, construction workers, and digger lovers. This is Duggy’s favourite song ever, he just keeps it on repeat most days.

Dig A Little Deeper – The Princess and the Frog

This song, from the 2009 Disney animated move, always puts a smile on Duggy’s face. He doesn’t really understand metaphors, but they sing the word dig a lot.

Can We Fix It – Bob the Builder

Bob the Builder is Duggy’s hero. This song inspired him to make Diggerland the most Diggertastic place in the world. But don’t ask him about Mambo No. 5 – that’s a sore point.

Here’s a couple more of Duggy’s favourites:

The Hippopotamus Song (Mud, Mud, Glorious Mud) – Flanders and Swann

Hole in the Ground – Bernard Cribbins
