Medway Business Awards Finalist

Diggerland have made it to the final of the Medway Business Awards (again!).

The expanding attraction impressed judges with their new creative marketing strategy, dedication to creating jobs for 18-24 year old’s, providing apprenticeships, providing overall excellent customer service, commitment to the environment and overall well-being of the Medway towns.

The awards were founded in the wake of the closure of Chatham Royal Naval Dockyard in 1984. It was a devastating blow to the Towns. However the past 31 years have witnessed a remarkable recovery, with the Medway Business Awards playing a vital part in the area’s economic revival.

They have recognised and rewarded exceptional business achievement, often against the odds. Over the past 31 years, hundreds of firms have entered the county’s oldest business contest.

Diggerland was a finalist last year, however did not quite make the cut to win an award.

This year Diggerland is back in the running and have put out all the stops to win! The awards evening is being held at Gillingham Football Club in November, fingers crossed to make Diggerland an award winning theme park once again!

Rays of Sunshine

Diggerland is delighted to be working with Rays of Sunshine. To celebrate the launch of the working relationship between the theme park and the charity, Diggerland is giving the children’s charity 20 complimentary tickets, offering a number seriously ill children the chance to enjoy a day of fun-filled distraction from the daily routines of hospital appointments and treatments.

Rays of Sunshine grants wishes for children across the UK (aged three to 18), living with a serious or life-limiting illness. Every day of the year the charity gives brave and deserving young people the chance to put their illness on hold and enjoy a moment of escape.

Over 4,000 individual wishes have been granted since the charity was set up in 2003. Wishes can be as unique as the children themselves and whether a child wants to be a princess or a fireman for the day, go to Disney World in Florida, visit Santa in Lapland, own an iPad, meet a favourite celebrity or a ‘real life’ mermaid, Rays of Sunshine works hard to make that wish come true.

Rays of Sunshine also grants ward wishes, which offer a distraction to hundreds of children during their time in hospital or a hospice. Events and outings are held throughout the year for large groups of seriously ill children including trips to theme parks, hospital activity/pamper days, parties and The Rays of Sunshine Concert at The Royal Albert Hall.

Sherene Garvin-Mack, UK Marketing Manager at Diggerland, commented:

“Working with Rays of Sunshine is extremely important to Diggerland. Nothing is more gratifying then to see the children of the charity having their wishes come true. Rays of Sunshine is a truly remarkable charity and to see the hard-working staff and volunteers go above and beyond to make the lives of these children just that bit more manageable, with an unforgettable experience is beautiful. We cannot wait to welcome the children, we just know they will have “Buckets of Fun”.

Jane Sharpe, CEO of Rays of Sunshine, added:

“We’re absolutely delighted to be working with Diggerland and we’re extremely grateful to be able to invite our wish children along to enjoy the theme park. It’s great to be able to offer our wish children the chance to spend the day having fun, giving them the opportunity to escape from the daily routine of hospital appointments and treatment.”

Lost Pony at Diggerland Kent

A Yellow Pony was left at our Diggerland Kent Park and we would like to reunite her with her owner! Here is what the Pony has had to say about it:

Please help me be reunited with my owner! I was left all alone at Diggerland one evening after a day out in Kent, but luckily I was found by my new friends, Duggy and Dotty. They’ve taken me on all the rides, made sure I’ve had food in my belly and a roof over my head – it’s been great! However, i’m really starting to get home sick now. I need you to #HelpFindMyOwner.

Diggerland Breaks New Ground

Today marks another huge milestone for Diggerland, with an agreement to open a 5th UK park in the picturesque vale of Evesham, Worcestershire.

Over the past fifteen years, Diggerland has grown considerably from their Head Office base in Kent. The brand began in 2000 with the very first Diggerland opening on The Medway City Estate in Strood, Kent. In 2003 it was forced, due to escalating demand, to move to a much larger site a few miles away. The success of the Kent park lead to customer comments from all over the country flooding in, asking for more parks in other locations. CEO Hugh Edeleanu, made the decision to further expand. Diggerland is currently operating four UK parks located in Devon, Durham, Kent and Yorkshire. In June 2014, a new franchised Diggerland opened in West Berlin, New Jersey, marking the beginning of Diggerland USA.

The new Diggerland park in Worcestershire will open on a multi-million pound redevelopment at Evesham Country Park, which will soon be re-named as “The Valley”. The site overlooks the River Avon and is set in 125 acres of beautiful countryside. It comprises a  purpose built garden centre, factory outlet units, a farm shop, as well as its own miniature steam railway. The Valley will offer a shopping village with new retailers, cafes and restaurants, cycle tracks, climbing walls, running tracks, picnic areas and now Diggerland coming soon.

The Concept of Diggerland is a global one; America gave the world Disney, and we have given the world Diggerland!

In a statement to the press, CEO Hugh Edeleanu commented:

“With Diggerland hitting all four corners of the UK at the moment, we have been planning a move to the Midlands for quite some time. When we discovered Evesham Country Park (The Valley), we jumped at the chance to get on board. The location is undergoing an impressive re-brand itself and we are delighted to be a part of it. Diggerland is excited to be opening the new Midlands park.”

Masterhitch Europe Limited, sister company to Diggerland will soon be buzzing with activity behind the scenes manufacturing and engineering the new construction attractions for the Midlands park. The rides will include the well liked attractions of “Spindizzy”, “Groundshuttle” and “Skyshuttle”, as well as many other unique and wonderful construction based machines for children and adults to ride, drive and operate. Masterhitch Europe Limited has proven themselves leaders in the design and manufacturing of large excavator attachments and parts for construction, earth moving and demolition equipment, and have been fabricating the Diggerland rides for over 15 years.

Each of the Diggerland UK locations has opened for the season and feature over 100 diggers, dumpers and other mechanical attractions available for family amusement. For the ultimate adrenaline rush, take a ride on “Spindizzy,” whirl around in the “Dig-a-Round,” test your driving skills on the Dumper Trucks, or get behind the wheel of an eight and half-tonne JCB.

“We’re beyond excited to be working with Evesham Country Park (The Valley), building the foundations for an extraordinary and unique partnership,” said Hugh Edeleanu, CEO. “The attraction is unlike anything that currently exists and will undoubtedly become a fantastic destination for all.” Hugh continues, “The concept of Diggerland is a global one; America gave the world Disney, and we have given the world Diggerland!”

Kent Charity Awards Finale

2015 marked the very first year of the Kent Charity Awards and on Thursday evening Hugh, Andy, Louise and Sherene attended the prestigious event.

The aim of the awards is to showcase the hard work and perseverance that charities and voluntary groups undertake to make the lives of others better. There are currently no similar awards in Kent and these unique awards have already become an important date in the third sector diaries. The Kent Charity Awards will be open to both small and large charities whether a branch of a national charity, a small community based charity or a voluntary group.

Diggerland sponsored the awards and last night presented the Children’s Charity of the Year award to winning charity ChYps, an inspiring charity whose purpose is to enable Children and Young people with life-threatening conditions to receive clinical care and support in their place of choice, which is overwhelmingly in their own home.

Each guest at Thursday evenings awards received one complimentary Diggerland ticket each, which went down extremely well with cheers galore for Diggerland throughout the entire evening.

Hosted by BBC TV presenter Rob Smith, the evening was well received with over 210 guests and was also graced with the presence of Bucks Fizz, local MP Rehman Chishti and the Mayor of Medway.
