Setting your New Year’s Resolution with Diggerland!

Most children will now have finished school for the festive break, and will most likely be excited for Christmas and the festive celebrations ahead. As they say, it’s the most wonderful time of the year! Diggerland is also shut for the season and we are looking forward to the new year ahead!

Reflecting on the past 12 months, and the excitement of 2022, have you set yourself a New Year’s resolution yet?

THE HISTORY OF NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS

Setting a New Year’s resolution was first introduced over 4,000 years ago by the Babylonians. In 2000 B.C, the Babylonians celebrated during a festival called Akitu that lasted 12 days. The festival took place in Spring, and it was also the start of the farming season, and they would begin to plant crops and make promises to pay any debts. A typical resolution would be to return borrowed farm equipment.

In 46 B.C, the ancient Romans then took over the Babylonian New Year and changed the date to 1st January.

Around the world, New Year’s resolutions are still a widely celebrated tradition, however they have changed to become more light heartedly vows that would often be personal goals and self improvement instead.

TOP 10 POPULAR NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS FOR CHILDREN

It’s a common tradition for everyone to do every year, whether they stick to it or not is a different matter! Let’s take a look at the top 10 New Year’s resolutions for children to make:

Keep my room tidy

Something that most children vow to do, but how often will they actually stick to this once the toy box has been opened!

Eat more fruit and vegetables

We know it’s not something at the top of every child’s list, but it’s incredibly important to make sure you’re getting your five-a-day. What is your favourite fruit or vegetable?

Be nicer to my siblings

If you’re an only child then this one is impossible to break. However if you feel like you could be nicer to your siblings then it’s a perfect New Year’s resolution to start with.

Help out more around the house

No one likes housework and we know children are busy with homework, but it’s always great to help out parents where possible. Whether you can help unload the dishwasher, tidy away your shoes or even dust, every little helps.

I will read more books outside of school

Read, read, read! It’s important for your development, and who knows you might actually learn something interesting and even useful!

I will always do my best in school

Education is important, so it’s always best to give 100% and ask when you need help with anything.

I will not watch as much TV and get outside more

As fun as TV can be, as a child it’s important to get outside and enjoy the fresh air as much as possible. Perhaps asking parents to book a fantastic day out to one of our Diggerland theme parks!

I will take up a new hobby or sport

Are you into football or even dance? Taking up a sport can be the perfect break from school work, and a time to unwind and make new friends.

I will get involved more when making dinner

Cooking can be fun, especially when it’s with parents. Which recipe are you going to cook first?

I will go to bed on time

A lack of sleep can cause healthy and academic issues in children. Going to bed on time is a great resolution for a child to easily agree to and also stick to as well.

Goal setting is key to children’s development, as it will teach them a sense of responsibility. Making commitments from an early age is something that should be introduced as and when children can understand the importance of goals and setting targets. So be sure to sit down with your child and go through realistic New Year’s resolution ideas with them.

OUR NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS

As a UK theme park we also like to set our own New Year’s resolutions! In 2022, we always aim to ensure all of our guests, children and adults alike have a dig-tastic day out at our attraction.

We will also try and get Duggy and Dotty, our mascots, out of their houses more, as they are also ones that enjoy a bit too much TV!

BOOK A FAMILY DAY OUT TO DIGGERLAND UK THEME PARK

As an adult, we know that a common New Year’s resolution is to make more time for family time and explore. Diggerland UK theme park is the perfect place to add to your to-do list if you haven’t already.

Although we are closed for winter, we are due to re-open again in mid February. Our opening dates will also be released early 2022, so be sure to check back.

For the time being, there is still time to order a gift voucher on our website. If you know someone who would love to get hands on with our diggers, or even drive a dumper truck then our admission gift vouchers will be perfect!

If your New Year’s resolution is to try something new, then that’s also a great reason to book tickets for Diggerland!

We hope you all have a happy New Year!
