The great British summer is quickly approaching, and that can only mean one thing… Family weekend holidays! Many Brits may be considering travelling abroad for the first time in a few years thanks to the pandemic. For those of you who are committed to holidaying in the UK, hopefully the weather holds out for some great outdoor activities!
Being the first summer in two years we’re actually allowed out of our homes, we’ve got five brilliant outdoor activities for the whole family.
Who doesn’t love the beach? Not only can it be a relaxing day out for adults, but it can keep the kids entertained for hours! From running around barefoot and splashing in the sea to building sandcastles or collecting seashells, a break at the beach offers endless fun for all ages.
Wherever you’re considering travelling to, a beach day could be on the cards! We’d particularly recommend the beaches in the south of the UK for the warmest weather, such as Cornwall and Devon.
(Don’t forget – Our Devon Diggerland park will be reopening on 28th May 2022 and is a great addition to any family holiday!)
CHANGING OF THE GUARD
A day out in London is exciting for any youngster, but what better year to visit? With the Queen’s platinum jubilee coming up in June, it’s the perfect time to take a trip to the big city. People come from far and wide to experience the royal tradition of the Changing of the Guard ceremony outside of Buckingham Palace.
It’s completely free to watch and happens daily at 11am. The ceremony lasts roughly 45 minutes and is a great way to celebrate 70 years of service for the Queen.
DIG THE DAY AWAY
Of course, we couldn’t leave out our very own Diggerland parks! Not only is Diggerland UK a brilliant theme park for the whole family, but all of our rides and drives are outdoor activities. In the warmer months, a day at Diggerland can be super relaxing (and you’ll avoid the mud)!
We have 20 different construction-based attractions which are suitable for children and adults alike. While we recommend Diggerland to any children over four years of age, we do have height restrictions on our rides. These mean that any child over the height of 90cm can enjoy the majority of rides at Diggerland.
We’d definitely recommend checking out the Rides and Drives page to see what your little ones can enjoy before booking your tickets!
TAKE A TRIP THROUGH TIME
If you are planning on taking a trip down south, why not walk in the footsteps of our ancestors and visit Stonehenge?! With a history spanning over 4,500 years, a day at Stonehenge has lots to explore!
The Stone Circle is an absolute masterpiece and as construction fans we can’t help but wonder how these huge structures were built! You can book your visit online here, and remember you enter for free with an English Heritage membership!
Some of our favourite outdoor activities are ones which the whole family can get involved with! These Treasure Trails are perfect for young detectives and budding spies and are a great, fun way to get some fresh air.
Their self-guided booklet has over 1,200 trails you can follow to uncover hidden corners of villages, towns and cities around the UK. From remote locations to open spaces, there’s sure to be a trail at your chosen holiday destination.
These are all completely free to take part in. You can download the trails from their website and head off at your own pace!
