As the winter chill settles in and Diggerland takes a seasonal siesta, it’s the perfect opportunity to explore the local winter wonderland. From exhilarating outdoor escapades to cosy indoor pastimes, there’s no shortage of activities to keep you entertained. In this blog post, we’ll uncover a range of local winter activities that promise excitement and joy while you await Diggerland’s reopening. Let’s dive in!
Hit the Local Sledding Hills
Embrace the winter spirit by heading to your nearest sledding hill. Grab a sled or a tube, gather your family and friends, and race down the slopes for a day of laughter and thrills. Don’t forget to bundle up and bring along some hot cocoa to keep warm between runs.
Indulge in Ice Skating
Sharpen your skates and hit the local ice rink for a day of graceful gliding or joyful stumbling. Ice skating is a timeless winter activity suitable for all ages, making it a perfect outing for families, couples, and solo adventurers alike.
For those local to Diggerland Yorkshire, the nearest ice rink is Planet Ice Leeds which is a 20 minute drive away. The closest ice rink to Diggerland Durham is Whitley Bay Ice Rink, which is 40 minutes away by car. Close to Kent, a 15 minute drive away is Planet Ice Gillingham. Our Devon park is not local to any ice rinks, the closest is Vindico Arena which is a two hour drive.
Experience the Thrill of Indoor Rock Climbing
For those seeking an adrenaline rush indoors, consider trying out indoor rock climbing. Many local climbing gyms offer a safe and challenging environment for climbers of all skill levels. It’s a fantastic way to stay active and conquer new heights during the winter months.
Attend a Winter Festival or Market
Keep an eye out for winter festivals and markets happening in your area. These events often feature festive decorations, delicious treats, and unique crafts and gifts. They provide a wonderful opportunity to soak in the holiday spirit and support local artisans and businesses.
Visit a Local Museum or Art Gallery
Indulge your curiosity and creativity by visiting a nearby museum or art gallery. These cultural spaces often host special exhibitions, workshops, and events during the winter season, providing an enriching and educational experience for visitors of all ages.
Volunteer and Give Back to the Community
The winter season is a time for giving, and there are numerous ways to get involved in your community. Consider volunteering at a local shelter, participating in a charity event, or organising a winter coat drive. Your efforts will not only make a positive impact but also spread warmth and kindness.
