Diggerland Theme Park in Kent is going green to challenge climate change!

When you think of clean, environmentally friendly days out, our Diggerland theme park in Kent probably isn’t the first place that comes to mind!

Did you know that before Diggerland was built, our Kent site was actually a landfill? The gas infrastructure on the site was very poor, however we have worked hard to get this to 100%. Now we are able to reduce the effects methane has on the atmosphere by at least 90%.

We are also committed to ensuring we can improve the sustainability of our theme park in Kent. Annually, we hold staff days where trees and shrubs are planted at our park locations in Kent, Durham and Yorkshire. This helps enhance wildlife and their habitats.

We are constantly researching ways in which we can improve all three of the Diggerland parks to make them more eco-friendly.

All-electric Rides and Drives at Diggerland Theme Park in Kent

Can you guess what the biggest environmental impact from Diggerland is? Yep, you guessed it – the diggers!

As we know diggers are diesel guzzling machines, which is why we are using all-electric alternatives whenever we can. We are proud to say that at the moment five of the rides at Diggerland are now run on electric. These include:

  • Crazy Carts
  • Dodgems
  • Go-Karts
  • Mini landrovers
  • Mini Tractors

However, we are always aiming to increase this and hope to purchase more electric diggers soon! We are also researching environmentally friendly machines to replace our diesel diggers.

EV charging points

At all of our Diggerland parks you will find electric vehicle charging stations. We are delighted to be one of the only major theme parks in the UK to provide our guests with EV charging points.

These are provided by our sister company, EVision Electric Vehicles. Visitors of Diggerland are able to use our Tesla Destination Chargers for free while you enjoy the theme park.

What else is Diggerland Theme Park in Kent doing to curb the climate crisis?

At our theme park in Kent, and our three other parks, we have installed solar panels on the roofs of our buildings. This means Diggerland produces its own energy without producing any dirty carbon emissions.

We also have carbon-neutral biomass boiler systems that provide heat for all of our theme parks. They even generate surplus energy!

5 ways kids can help the environment!

  1. Flick the switch

Tackling big issues like climate change takes small changes and group effort! One simple way your child can help the environment is by turning off switches that aren’t being used.

This is as easy as turning off their bedroom light when they leave the room. Your child can also try turning off any switches connected to electrical devices they are no longer using, such as iPads or Kindles.

  1. Recycle

Recycling is common among most UK households now, so why not get the kids involved? Teach them what can be recycled instead of throwing it away!

You could get your child to put their old homework sheets in the paper bin and yogurt containers in the plastic bin!

  1. Reuse

How many times does your child need a cardboard box or milk carton for a school art project?

By reusing everyday household items, you could tell them a little about how this supports our planet. They also get to create some cool art pieces!

  1. Conserve water

Teach your child about the importance of saving water in a way they can understand. This could be as simple as getting them to turn the tap off when they’re brushing their teeth.

You could also show them how to properly water plants in the garden!

  1. Rehoming

Rehoming is one of the easiest ways to get rid of things you no longer need without producing tons of waste.

There is usually a huge amount of waste when your child begins to grow out of their clothes or toys. Why not teach them the value of rehoming by visiting a local children’s charity or donating to a friend in need?

Not only are you helping the environment, but you’re also educating your child on supporting those in need.

How can parents get involved?

Travel responsibly

Did you know that transport is one of the most polluting sectors in the UK? That’s why one of the most effective ways of lowering your environmental footprint is to choose a more sustainable method of travel.

Whether that’s choosing to walk or cycle to work a couple of times a week, or ditching gas-powered vehicles all together! We’re dedicated to supporting a better, cleaner future for generations to come, which is why we encourage the development and use of electric vehicles.

At EVision, you can hire one of their available EVs to truly try the all-electric experience. They have plenty of electric vehicles to choose from, including practical, family vehicles such as the Kia e-Niro and the Volkswagen ID.4.

Looking for something more upbeat and fun? EVision has got you covered! You can also choose from EVs from big brands such as Tesla, Porsche and Jaguar.

To hire a vehicle, or for more information, just give the EVision team a call on 01634 914 063.
