The twinkling lights, the scent of pine, and the joyous melodies in the air signify the arrival of the most magical time of the year—Christmas! For young children, the holiday season embodies wonder and excitement. To make this Christmas even more special for your little ones, here are seven enchanting activities that will sprinkle extra joy and merriment into their celebrations whilst Diggerland is closed.
Create Handcrafted Ornaments
Gather the family for a delightful crafting session to create personalised ornaments. Using simple materials like paper, glitter, ribbons, and paints, let your child’s imagination soar as they design unique decorations for the tree. These handcrafted ornaments become cherished keepsakes, capturing the essence of the season and your child’s creativity. We challenge you to create digger themed Christmas ornaments, make sure to tag us on social media so we can see all of your hard work!
Storytime by the Fireplace
Cosy up by the fireplace or under a blanket fort and dive into the enchanting world of Christmas stories. From classic tales such as “The Night Before Christmas” to heartwarming modern stories, reading together cultivates a love for storytelling and creates cherished moments of togetherness.
Bake Festive Treats
Engage your little bakers in the kitchen to whip up delicious Christmas treats. From decorating sugar cookies with colourful icing to making gingerbread houses, the process of baking becomes an adventure filled with laughter, learning, and, of course, tasty rewards to share with family and friends.
Visit a Winter Wonderland
Take a trip to a local winter wonderland or Christmas market. The sights and sounds of holiday festivities, carousel rides, ice skating, and meeting Santa Claus will leave your little ones wide-eyed with wonder. These experiences not only create magical memories but also foster a sense of community and joy. There are many winter wonderlands located near our parks! Yorkshire’s Winter Wonderland is located at York designer outlet and open until the 7th of January 2024. Adventure Valley’s Winter Wonderland in Durham is open until December 24th. Exeter’s Winter Wonderland is closed this year, however by booking a short trip to Lady’s Mile in South Devon you can experience a smaller and more cosy winter wonderland. Hyde Park Winter Wonderland is an hour’s train ride from our Kent park, the country’s biggest Christmas experience.
Holiday Movie Marathon
Curl up on the couch with a cup of hot cocoa and indulge in a holiday movie marathon. From animated classics such as “The Polar Express” to heart-warming tales such as “Elf” or “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” these movies transport children to whimsical worlds filled with holiday cheer.
Decorate a Gingerbread House
Unleash your child’s creativity by decorating a gingerbread house together. With icing, candies, and assorted edible decorations, transform plain gingerbread into a festive masterpiece. This activity encourages imagination and fine motor skills while sparking delight in the holiday spirit.
Spread Kindness through Giving
Teach the spirit of giving by involving your child in acts of kindness. Whether it’s donating toys to children in need, volunteering at a local shelter, or creating handmade cards for neighbours, these acts instil the value of empathy and generosity, fostering the true essence of Christmas.
