Want to Beat the Winter Blues? Plan Family Days Out

It’s that time of year again when the cold weather makes us want to stay cooped up at home near a warm and toasty fire. But even though the thought of playing outdoors makes us shiver, it is still important for families to make time for each other and have fun family days out together, despite the cold. While attractions like Diggerland are a perfect idea for family outings, parents may need to brainstorm some new ideas during the winter months when these options are closed for the season.

Fortunately, there are many fun options for family activities that can be enjoyed in the winter. As long as your little ones are dressed properly, your family can brave the winter, explore new places, and embrace the chill. If you are hoping to lift your family’s spirits, here are 3 ideas for a family day out that is certain to get rid of the winter blues:

Beating the blues with a family days out at Diggerland.

  1. Take a Ride on the Polar Express

Your family will have endless amounts of fun—while staying warm in your pyjamas!—aboard the Polar Express, which departs from Seaton Terminus in Devon. Based on the best-selling book, this journey features a sing-along for children, a meeting with Santa and his elves, and winter treats for the whole family like hot chocolate and cookies. Your little ones will love this adventure, and each will even receive a special gift from Santa.

  1. Visit Your Local Library or Museum

While your children may not initially jump at the idea for a family day out at the library or a museum, these are two places that oftentimes feature many fun events for the whole family. Many libraries put on performances during the winter of puppet shows for children, and it could also be fun to spend an afternoon at the library picking out new books or a great film to watch as a family in the evening. Similarly, many museums offer family-friendly tours, activities, and other options that will keep everybody entertained and perfect for family days out.

  1. Go Skating—Inside or Outside

A third option for families looking for a way to have fun despite the cold is to go roller skating at the leisure center or find an ice skating rink outdoors. This activity is not only a good way for the family to exercise, but it will certainly make for a day of laughs. Skating is always a comical way to test each family member’s athleticism and balance, and your children will most definitely have a good time rushing ‘round and ‘round the rink.

Just because it is the winter doesn’t mean that your family can’t find ways to enjoy one another and spend a day together embracing the cold. By taking your family for a fun tram ride, a visit to the library, or an afternoon of skating, you can create memories together that are sure to outlast the frigid temperatures.

PL Projects Ltd at Diggerland – Friday 23rd September 2016, The Bronze Package.20160923_183952-1

“Firstly, can we say what a fantastic reception we had from everyone at Diggerland Yorkshire.  The booking process was easy, you were flexible and helpful when we needed to make number changes, and we were made to feel really welcome on-site by your very friendly team.

We chose The Bronze Package, which included the Dippy Ducks Challenge, Robot Relay racing and Blindfolded 4×4 racing. The highlight of the event for us was the Blindfolded 4×4 race – it’s really disorientating, and a few of us ran into earth banks and got stuck in potholes! But your staff helped us out every time and made sure we could all have a good laugh about it.

Overall, the event was a really great way to team-build, and we would definitely recommend Diggerland Corporate events to other businesses looking for an idea that’s a little bit different, quite a challenge, and genuinely good fun. Thanks from all the team at PLP!!”

Kids have been going crazy at Diggerland theme parks, as a new mobile game that has become a global phenomenon was unleashed in the UK.

Pokemon Go, a game that allows players to use the GPS on their mobile phones to catch Pokemon in order to train and battle, has taken the world by storm.

Created by the owner of Google Maps, the app works by the player walking to various locations to collect Pokemon. Landmarks such as churches, attractions, small and large businesses have all become hotspots, with people visiting all kinds of places just to collect these awesome virtual critters.

Children and even parents at Diggerland have been downloading the new Pokemon game so that they can catch all of the Pokemon located at Diggerland UK-based theme parks.

A ‘Gym’ is also located at Diggerland, a big blue tower that cannot be missed on one’s smart phone when playing the app. The ‘Gym’ is an arena for battling other trainers Pokemon to try and achieve ‘prestige’ points.

Diggerland decided to ask some customers what they thought of the game.

There seemed to be pros and cons with some customers thinking the app was a good idea to get children outdoors and moving, with other parents expressing concerns that the app could be dangerous in the sense that children would not concentrate on their surroundings and may face dangerous situations.

Watch this video to hear what Diggerland’s customers had to say. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZbVRBbE4h8

Diggerland’s Digital Marketing Executive, Celia Kelly has some advice for parents allowing children to play the Pokemon Go game or indeed for the parents playing the game themselves. “It’s a great game and wonderful to see children and adults getting involved, but just be careful when catching Pokemon to keep your wits about you. Remember not to play when driving, crossing roads or whilst supervising children, as this game could be a real distraction.”
